A leader in the Boise area health food movement, The Kula Connection is the only plant-based food production in the state. “We are a lifestyle business specializing in plant-based alternative food products,” say owners Michelle Russel and Spencer Harber. “We are former professors and experts in wellness and nutrition.”

What’s not been healthy for business has been the global pandemic. “Our sales have been negatively affected by a drop in consumer confidence around safety,” says Russel. “We’ve unfortunately had to let much of our staff go and are looking to move the business to save money.”

Despite these challenges, Russel and Harber are excited about their partnership with Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project because they believe their community is a caring place where people look after each other no matter what. To help, The Kula Connection is providing giveaways to customers and Columbia Bank is paying the bill. “We are passing it on to our customers through giveaways, including our new cookbook to dozens of customers,” says Harber. “The example of passing it on is something that will endure past the pandemic, and with Columbia Bank’s help, we want to be on the forefront of this movement.”
