When Kathi Coston, owner of Sunrise Hair Design, in Olympia, Washington, first started, she was a single mom with a child on her hip and no real business knowledge whatsoever. “Fast-forward 42 years, and we’ve built a great community minded salon in the same location that serves our clients from the inside out,” she says. “It starts with hair, but really we build genuine relationships that last over time.”

A strong and determined business owner who started with nothing, she wasn’t going to let the pandemic stop her. “While it has been a huge challenge, and we had to shut down for three months, we are coming out OK,” says Coston. We really innovated the way we serve our customers so that we can keep them safe and comfortable and still provide the kind of service they expect.”

Continuing to serve those long-time relationships is why Sunrise Hair Design decided to be a partner of Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project. Sunrise Hair Design in providing discounted services to clients and Columbia Bank is picking up the tab. “We are passing it on to our customers of course!” says Coston. “We will be providing discount services to these people who have continually supported us over the last 42 years. With Columbia Bank’s support, we are going to do what we can to help people find some joy.”
