If you live along the Oregon coast and love a good bargain, chances are you’re familiar with LaVora Palmer’s Rags to Riches, a consignment/resale store catering mainly to women. It has been a community staple in Newport for over 30 years. LaVora boasts that a fun and upbeat environment where affordable clothing is just a bonus!

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has affected small businesses along the Oregon coast, and Rags to Riches was no exception. “We were closed for 3 months, and many other businesses were, too,” LaVora said. Still, she believes passing it on is more important than ever.

That’s why LaVora jumped at the chance to join in Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project. “If there ever was a time to show compassion and help your community, now is the time,” LaVora said. “So many people are in crisis. It’s a great opportunity for my business to give back to people who otherwise couldn’t afford clothing.”

With Columbia Bank paying the tab, Rags to Riches is delivering gift cards to local community members who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 crisis. Who knows what kind of treasures they might end up finding!
