Every town should have a Moonshot Brewing. Luckily, the folks in Kennewick, Washington can call Moonshot their own and the brewery and taproom has become one of the most beloved community gathering places in the area. Whether it’s the watch parties for MLS soccer, family friendly bingo nights, or special tastings of the Tri-Cities’ only barrel ages sour ale program, Moonshot Brewing is a treasure for Kennewick.

Yet, the pandemic and restrictions cut Moonshot off from the community it supports. “At times we felt like we were barely a business at all,” says co-owners Hilary Bird and Ryan Wattenbarger. “For a lot of the closure, we were only able to remain open for to-go options for our customers.”

Being in the service industry, Bird and Wattenbarger know intimately how COVID-19 has turned service industry worker’s lives upside down. When the Wattenbarger’s heard about Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project, they knew they wanted to get involved. Moonshot is providing a little relief to service industry workers by pouring free beer and Columbia Bank is paying the bill. “The good folks who live on tips and minimum wage deserve all the help they can get,” says Bird. “With Columbia Bank picking up the tab, we are giving them free beer to help provide a little shot of joy in their lives.”
