Since 1968, Desert Lanes Restaurant & Lounge in Hermiston, Oregon has been setting em’ up and knocking em’ down for bowlers and diners throughout the greater northeastern Oregon area for generations. What started as a simple bowling alley has evolved into extra food offerings and drink specials for patrons. “We love serving our customers food and drinks, but we’ve stayed true to our focus as one of the best bowling alleys around,” says owner James Hummel.

Unfortunately, bowling alleys have been hard hit by the pandemic and Desert Lanes has shouldered their share of hardship. “Like many other businesses, it’s been tough,” says Hummel. “Bowling is such a great way to relieve stress and it’s been so hard to not be able to offer what we normally do during this time.”

Yet, Hummel and team are partnering with Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project so they can give back to their young customers. That is why Desert Lanes Restaurant & Lounge is providing gift certificates to local families and Columbia Bank is covering the tab. “We are passing it on by providing bowling and food certificates to our junior bowlers to use for themselves and their families,” he says. “With Columbia Bank picking up the tab, we are going to be able to brighten the days of kids and families during this stressful time.”
