Looking for a rare rhododendron, scarce sage or an unusual umbrella magnolia? Then A Modern Plantsman has you covered. “We carry plants that you won’t find anywhere else, at least in the Palouse Region,” says owner Dominic Villareal. “We really envision our space as not just a plant shop, but a hub for the local plant loving community.”

Unfortunately, the pandemic has hit the shop extremely hard in the past few months. “It’s put an extreme amount of stress on the business, my staff, and myself,” says Villareal. “Like many businesses, we were forced to close up shop. To make matters worse, we had just launched our satellite shop right at the very beginning of COVID.”

Like many entrepreneurs however, Villareal is looking for creative ways to continue serving their community and that’s why he knew he wanted to be a part of Columbia Bank’s Pass It On Project. A Modern Plantsman is providing free plants and encouraging customers pass it on as well. “With the Columbia Bank picking up the tab, we are going to allow people to choose who they want to pass it on to,” says Villareal. “They can specify who they want a plant to go to, and we will take care of the rest. It’s a great way to help make a positive impact in the community.”
